Quick CU Buff Bites - Tennis, Slalom, and the Pac-12 Network

Recapping Colorado Buffaloes Basketball & Athletics News, Links, and Stories

Colorado_mediumBuffs Tennis Rolls Past CSU, 6-1 - CUBuffs.com - Official Athletics Web site of the University of Colorado

There was a large crowd on hand Saturday evening at the Meadows Club, where the University of Colorado women's tennis team put on an impressive show, beating the visitors from Fort Collins, 6-1. The Buffaloes continued a winning streak against Colorado State University that has lasted throughout the entire series (CU leads all-time 26-0). CU improves to 15-0 against the Rams when playing in Boulder.

Colorado_mediumCU SKIING: Buffs Finish In Third In UAA Seawolf - CUBuffs.com - Official Athletics Web site of the University of Colorado

The cancellation of Thursday's men's giant slalom meant that the team points in the slalom would be doubled here Saturday in the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolf Invitational, normally a good thing for a defending national champion University of Colorado ski team traditionally strong in that event. The Buffaloes trailed Utah by 13 points entering the day, the margin increasing to 33 despite five CU women skiers finishing in the top 12. However, the men's slalom proved to be a total disaster and Colorado would finish third, only the school's second result outside the top two in its last 14 meets dating back to 2010.

Colorado_pac-12Pac-12 Network breaks ground - Pac-12 Blog - ESPN

The Pac-12 will break ground on its new network studio in San Francisco on Monday. I know this because I got an invitation. That means, as I'm sure you already know, I run with the cool crowd... WHY: The Pac-12 Studios will be home to the Pac-12 Network and the Pac-12 Digital Network. The Pac-12 Network will showcase 850 live Pac-12 sporting events each year as well as original studio programming. It is scheduled to launch in August, 2012. WHEN: Monday, February 13 at 11:00 a.m. WHERE: 370 Third Street, Third Floor, San Francisco, CA 94107

If you're in SF and can take an early lunch, you should go and represent TRR!

The Elusive fourth link! Who misses the Big12? I don't. (It's an Iowa State fan holding a sign that lampoons Aggies. I would never trick you with a blind link).

Can't wait for the Pac 12 network

Won’t have to search the dial on FCS for the games.

Stanford game got picked up by FSN and will be at 8:30 on 2/23

Well Played

I definitely got Rick Roll’d

Nostalgia, for the win!
Jon Wilner says the Pac 12 Network is not having problems getting picked up by cable carriers
My understanding: network on basic tier in all DMAs in conference footprint

This means the Pac 12 may have already been picked up in all of Pac 12’s DMA’s = Designated market areas, on a basic tier level to boot.

If this is true Pac 12 teams will easily hit the projected $12-15 million which would be on top of the estimated $21 million, per team, from the ESPN/FOX contract.

Larry Scott continues to look better as the Longhorn Network becomes even more of a joke.

As mentioned above,

I can’t wait to know what channel the Buffs are on, at all times.

you still won't really. you'll just know that they WILL be on

You’re still talking about a multi tiered media rights deal that stretchs across ESPN properties, Fox properties, and 2 levels of Pac 12 broadcast properties.

Scott said today that the national channel will be available online

I assume the regionals will too

didn't he also mention they might cost money?

I also assume they’ll have some of the same issues that ESPN3 does on certain internet providers. Too many complicated moving parts. Wake me up when DirecTV has all of it.

I'm on DirecTV too

And last I heard they didn’t have an agreement too offer the Pac12 network. That needs to change pronto.

to offer, that is

Stupid phone

I'm confident they will

DirecTV has EVERYTHING. Plus, even though Fox doesn’t own part of DirecTV directly any more, there’s still a relationship through a hedge fund. Fox traded their shares in DirecTV to buy back Fox shares (NewsCorp shares, really), so there’s still an influential hedge fund with interests in both. And Fox is still a Pac 12 partner. I wouldn’t be so confident if I had Dish.

Ugh. verizon FIOS....

Barely has anything.

I would GLADLY pay for the "Pac-12 online network" if it carried every CU football and basketball game

Then I could cancel cable as the only reason I keep it is for live sports. But I’m guessing they will only stream the 3rd tier games and not the games that air on ABC or the ESPN or FSN networks. I hope I’m wrong!

Even though I live in colorado I doubt I live in a DMA (that’s probably just Denver metro/front range). I have no confidence in my cable provider (but they do carry the MTN as part of the basic tier so maybe that’s a good sign).

It's much bigger than the just Denver metro...

http://www.krgspec.com/DMAOverview.cfm?AreaID=35

oh ok, cool

I didn’t know exactly what DMA meant. All locations that carry the Denver network stations I guess. That’s why parts of wyo and neb are on there but not Colorado Springs.

More on game availability

Jon Wilner –

* I also triple-checked with Scott about broadcast plans for football and men’s basketball games not shown on ESPN or Fox.

(I’ve sensed confusion about who will see what and where you need to be to see it.)

Here’s the answer: You’ll see everything no matter where you are, provided you’re a subscriber.

All football and men’s basketball games not shown on ESPN/Fox will be broadcast on the national and all the regional networks.

Pretty good deal if you ask me, this includes the abiltiy to watch any PAC 12 game (fball or bball) not on FOX/ESPN on any mobile device.

As for P12N revenue in 2012 – 2013, there will be some but not enough to distribute to schools.

Scott reiterated that, from an operations standpoint, the Pac-12 Network(s) will be revenue-positive in Year One, although he doesn’t expect the league to distribute any network-related income to the schools in 2012-13.
