Rivals: #33 in the Nation, #8 in the Pac 12

ESPN: B- Grade, #7 in the Pac 12

Last Updated: 5:50 PM, February 1

DE Ewing Simmons *** Stockton, California Rivals Visited 1/20. Will choose from: Multiple Pac 12 offers (unknown). Favorite: Unknown. Enjoyed his trip to Boulder.

Chris Solomon *** West Covina, California Rivals Scout Visited 1/13. Will choose between: Colorado, Nevada. Favorite: Unknown.

Poll
CU made it a priority rebuild the d-line and defensive backfield. We also signed 3 TEs and a highly touted QB. Which of these story lines will have the most profound impact on the success or failure of the 2012 recruiting class?

TE Vincent Hobbs Commits to the Buffs

Vincent Hobbs

Mesquite, TX

Ht: 6'3"

Wt: 230lbs

40: 4.65

Other offers: CSU, New Mexico, Memphis, Florida Atlantic, Marshall, Louisiana Monroe, New Mexico

Rivals ***

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Vincent-Hobbs-127226

Scout ***

He used to play WR and has just recently converted to the TE position. A weakness in Hobbs game may be his ability to block but that's just purely speculative on my part.

As BigVII noted his dream school was UT but never received an offer.

Check out the catch at :15 secs into the video

2 Great articles in the DC about incoming recruits

Kyle Ringo does as a great job explaining how CU landed 3 top tier recruits from an elite HS.

Kenneth Crawley is described as the most game ready of the 3 from Woodson. What's interesting is how Wayne Johnson, Woodson HC, describes De'Jon Wilson -

De'Jon is a kid who can be an All-American as long as he's doing what he's supposed to do and learning the system and everything the Colorado staff asks of him," he said. "If he's doing that and he's playing fast every play, you all are going to see an animal."

This is something I have read before about De'Jon. The kid has a high ceiling but the key will be for the CU staff to get this guy to play every down.

The article doesn't expound much on Walker other than saying he is the most versatile of the group. It should be interesting to see what position he ends up at.

What surprised me was Wayne Johnson's admiration for Greg Brown.

Johnson said he is a longtime admirer of CU defensive coordinator Greg Brown. He said he and Brown teach many of the same things to their defensive backs. In fact, Johnson began using a teaching tape that Brown put together 20 years ago during his first stint in Boulder as secondary coach under Bill McCartney.

Who knew. I think the pipeline from Woodson to CU is a great new development by the staff and hopefully it pays off for years to come.

The other article breaks down our 2 high profile incoming QB's. I'm still not sold that Dillon is the real deal but I am optimistic that he will have time to mature and develop behind Connor Wood, who I'm excited about. I have read that one of the big reasons Wood could not lock down the starting QB spot at UT was because of his inaccuracy. I was extremely impressed with the job Rip Sherer did with Hansen. It took a while but towards the end of the year Hansen had really shown marks of improvement. If Rip can do the same job with Wood that he did with Hansen I think 6-7 wins next season is not out of the question.

East West Shrine Game

The game just got started. We've got Ryan Miller and Tyler Hansen in the game. Ryan Miller is listed as a tackle. Reports I read on him during the week were less than kind. Didn't see anything on Hansen, either positive or negative.

The East starting off with the ball, so we'll see how the West's lineup shapes up here in a minute.

We also had Rodney Stewart in the Casino Del Soul game last week. In the one series I saw where he got extended time, he looked only OK, and so, so small. Looked good catching the ball though, and scored his team's first TD on a plunge.

If anything interesting happens, I'll update until the basketball game starts. At that point, the TiVo gets fired up. What the hell is the minimum word count here? Jesus.

What else s going on? Oh, tennis opened the season with a win over Air Force. There, happy FanPost word counter?

Players are listed by highest Rivals/Scout/ESPN rating

DE Luke Kaumatule **** Honolulu, HI Rivals Scout Will visit 1/27. Multiple offers. Will choose between: Colorado, Stanford, UCLA, Washington. Favorite: Stanford. He has been a Stanford commit since 9/2/11.

DE Ewing Simmons *** Stockton, California Rivals Will visit 1/20. Will choose from: Multiple Pac 12 offers (unknown). Favorite: Unknown. Enjoyed his trip to Boulder.

WR/CB Jonavaughn Williams *** San Juan Capistrano, California Rivals Visited 12/3. Will choose between: Colorado, Oregon State, San Diego State. Favorite: Colorado. Everything I have read points towards a CU commitment. However, Oregon State just offered and San Diego State seems to be hanging around. Teammate of CU prospect Keith Parker.

Chris Solomon *** West Covina, California Rivals Scout Will visit 1/13. Will choose between: Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State, Nevada. Favorite: Unknown.

OG Isaiah Folasa ** Corona, CA Visited 1/20.

WR Jason Gaines, El Cajon, CA Visited 1/20. Currently does not hold an offer from CU.

FB Keith Parker San Juan Capistrano, California Rivals Visited 12/3. Unrated. Still does not hold a scholarship offer from any school. Continue to keep an eye on this guy. I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw a CU offer eventually, if not, he could be a “preferred walk-on.” Teammate of CU prospect Jonavaughn Williams.

Damiene Cain out for the Rest of the Season

Looks like some off the court issues will keep Damiene off the team for the rest season. There is some question about whether he will ever rejoin the program.

Damiene did not have an impact in any of the games he played in but his size was something I saw as a tremendous asset. He was ranked by Rivals 150 prospects of the 2011 recruiting class.

I wish this kid the best in whatever he's dealing with.

"Animal Style" Andre Roberson

Front-paged because I have now realized that we need an Animal-Style t-shirt. Help me with some designs ladies and gents - JW

I coined this nickname for Andre Roberson because he is a double double machine. Double doubles are a popular hamburger option for popular left coast hamburger chain In-N-Out. It means double meat and double cheese. Animal style is the most famous of the secret menu items for In-N-Out. An animal style burger is the "burger of your choice with hand-leafed lettuce, tomato, a mustard cooked beef patty; add pickle, extra spread, with grilled onions." But really, it's all about the animal fries, which add melted cheese, spread, and grilled onions to their admittedly mediocre regular fries. They are fantastic.

Here is an updated list of players who have visited (or will visit) CU who remain uncommitted. Please add your knowledge in the comments below and I will continue to update this list.

Players are listed by highest Rivals/Scout/ESPN rating

TE Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick **** Scout Rivals Will Visit 1/13 Will choose between: Colorado, USC, UCLA, Oregon. Favorite: USC. He has been a "soft" USC commit since June. However, he apparently had an excellent CU visit...

CB Yuri Wright **** Ramsey, NJ, Rivals Scout Visited 12/10. Will choose between: Colorado, Michigan, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Georgia. Favorite: Unknown. The Yuri Wright sweepstakes has been like a soap opera. Many conflicting reports, including facebook/twitter controversy about his Colorado trip (see first discussion board). I don't feel great about this, however who knows at this point. Stay tuned.

OLB Deaysean Rippy **** McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, Rivals Scout Visited 12/3. Will choose between: Colorado, Pitt, West Virginia, Syracuse(?), Nebraska(?) Favorite: Unknown. Rumors are Colorado is recruiting this guy extremely hard. CU’s ace in the hole: His cousin is CU LB Doug Rippy. It's going to be a fight to the finish.

DE Luke Kaumatule **** Honolulu, HI Rivals Scout Will visit 1/27. Multiple offers. Will choose between: Colorado, Stanford, UCLA, Washington. Favorite: Stanford. He has been a Stanford commit since 9/2/11.

OLB Seth Jacobs **** Arroyo Grande, California Rivals Scout Will visit 1/20. Multiple offers. Will choose between: Colorado, Oklahoma State, UCLA, Arizona State, Arkansas. Favorite: Unknown. A few months ago this seemed like a long shot, however he is visiting which mean CU is at least in his Top 5.

CB Kenneth Crawley ****/*** Washington D.C. Rivals Visited 12/3. Will choose between: Colorado, Kansas, Georgia, and Michigan. Favorite: Unknown. De-committed from Tennessee 1/6. He has teammates DE De'Jon Wilson and DB John Walker are committed to CU.

DE Ewing Simmons *** Stockton, California Rivals Will visit 1/20. Will choose from: Multiple Pac 12 offers (unknown). Favorite: Unknown.

S Leo Thomas *** San Antonio, Texas Rivals Visited 12/3. Will choose between: Colorado, Arizona. Favorite: Colorado. Again, everything I have read points towards a CU commitment. He de-commited from Arizona after the coaching change.

FB Psalm Wooching *** Kailua Kona, HI Rivals Will Visit 1/27. Will choose between: Colorado, UCLA, Washington. Favorite: Unknown. Word is CU is really going after this guy, especially since FB Christian Powell went to UCLA. Wooching was originally a UCLA commit, I doubt they are in the running for his signature anymore.

Chris Solomon *** West Covina, California Rivals Scout Will visit 1/13. Will choose between: Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State, Nevada. Favorite: Unknown.

CB/WR Jeffrey Hall ***/** La Place, Louisiana Rivals Scout Will visit 1/13. Will choose between: Colorado, Kansas State. Favorite: Colorado. One problem: Academics.

TE Trevor Stevens ***/** Friendswood, Texas Rivals Scout Visited 12/10. Does not hold a CU offer. Will choose between: Colorado, Boise State, Iowa State, Harvard, Brown, Cornell. Favorite: Unknown. He may be Ivy league bound. This guy seems very smart.

CB Ryan Lewis ** Sammamish, Washington, Scout Visited 12/17. Will choose between: Colorado, Utah. Favorite: Colorado…? Utah has jumped in late and he will visit the Utes in January. This is far from set in stone but Colorado did get to him first…

WR Vincent Hobbs Mesquite, TX Scout Will visit 1/27. Does not hold a CU offer. Does hold offers from: Colorado State, Marshall, Memphis, New Mexico, ULM.

tOSU Handed Down NCAA Penalty

Wanted to open a thread for discussion on the panalties levied against Ohio State.

Wow, i personally am a little underwhelmed at the "severity" of the mayhem brought down by the NCAA. 1 year bowl ban (not this year...), reduction of 9 scholarships, and 2 year probation.... Yawn. We've been through a 5 year bowl ban.

I just don't see missing one year of bowls (no GUARENTEE they would have even made one, but probably so.), a few less scholarships which basically means squat, and probation. I think if you look at recruiting they already have this year, and even what USC is able to pull off, their is no impact to recruiting based on these penalties.

To me, neither OSU nor USC will really miss a beat, sure they will lose a couple dollars, but they will still remain the football machines as before their infractions. heck, OSU probably got a coaching upgrade because of it!

Let me know when the NCAA decides to do something more than shaking their disapproving finger at these programs.

Bowl Pick Em

It must be December: the Buffs aren't in a bowl game, you're scrambling to get your kids the hot new electronics, the beer has more berries and nutmeg added, and the Pick Em Bowl Mania is back.

Nothing is at stake, no costumes, no money, nothing except the glory of being the master of a system of collegiate athletics that is outdated, flawed, and money driven. Lucky you! Anyone can join, good luck.
